Ah, the mongoose legion 16 inch bike, the perfect vehicle for your little daredevil-in-training. This bike is equipped with features that will make your child feel like they're ready to take on the Olympics (or at least the cul-de-sac).

First off, we have the Mongoose® Hi-Ten steel frame and fork. This thing is tough as nails, which is great news for all those inevitable crashes and spills that are bound to happen. And with a 6" handlebar, your child will have no trouble steering their way to victory.

Included are 1-piece forged steel cranks with 130 mm arms. And with 25/9t gearing, your little speedster will be able to cruise around the neighborhood at top speed.

And we can't forget about those aluminum single wall 28H rims and 16 x 2.3" tires. These bad boys will provide the ultimate in traction and stability, ensuring that your child doesn't go flying off the bike at the slightest bump in the road.

Features

A first true BMX bike. The Legion L16 gives smaller kids the feel of what BMX is about, on a frame scaled to 16 in wheels.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

A 16 inch bike suits a rider of about 96 to 122cm, usually 4 to 7 years old, on a 16 to 16.5 inch top tube. It is the size most kids learn to ride properly on.

Sizes overlap on purpose, so personal preference comes into it. At this wheel size the top tube barely changes the fit: go by height, and check they can stand over the bike flat footed.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark.

Between two wheel sizes? Go up. Kids grow into a bike far faster than they grow out of the fun.
They should be able to stand over the top tube with both feet flat on the ground.
