The combination of low profile, chamfered Torx bolts mating to to the disc compression-plate gives a flat surface for the lock-ring to fasten against. Which has opened up the design up to implement the larger lock-ring profile, which allows the use of an external bottom bracket tool for fastening, allowing you to really torque the disc-mount up compared to other designs with a smaller fastening system.
