Kyle Ralston: Temporary Resident of Holland Street

Ralston has been on the road for what seems like an eternity, seizing the opportunity of being young and free from responsibility, to tour the country and see where it takes him and his bike.

A permanent resident of Perth, Ralston has been someone who caught my attention when I met him back in 2017/18 on a filming trip for 'Aeterna'. You may have noticed his presence on the LUXBMX Journal as part of the recent Hambone article. Kid brings an energy and a approach to BMX that I think deserves to be spotlighted, someone that does well to represent BMX in the way that BMX should be.

After conversing back and forth over emails for approximately 6 months, we've finally managed to offer something productive and focussed. As the dude explains, after settling into a period of work in Broken Hill, time gave way to some reflection about a chunk of his trip spent in Adelaide.

During this time, Ralston got to the grind and banged together a 15 minute mixtape of himself and the homies - most of which either live at 'Holland Street' or are part of that broader crew.

The following is a brief insight into the making of the video, above and beyond the basic Youtube description, more intimate, more personal; that's what you get with the LUXBMX Journal.

Adelaide is a place.

A pretty good and nice place I might add It is also the land of the Kaurna people. Respectfully.

Driving out of West Oz, I wasn’t really sure if I was gonna go to Adelaide, I wasn’t really sure what I was doing at all. I just wanted to do some biking in a location that was different. Fortunately, as I came around the Eyre Peninsula I got a message from Brayden (McPharlin), who I hadn’t met yet, letting me know there is biking available in Adelaide. Mad.

So, I left beautiful Port Lincoln and drove as fast as I could through port’o’gutter, the hot red town at the top of the water crack that separates the two good bits of South Aus with an 8-hour drive, and rolled into Madelaide.

After a night out front of Doug's house where my mate Zenith had been stranded after rolling his house on his trans-continental journey, I found myself big chilling on Holland Street. This spot is just a second from city park (rip old city park it looked way better but i guess a new hospital is kinda important even when they never build them big enough) and the city centre which contrary to popular belief still has many things to peg and jump.

Brayden, bar out on a really cool spot. Tyres to tyres to reach this point

The boys; Brayden, Fieg, and Brad who officially occupy the house plus the few others that had been coming and going made it hard to just pass through quickly. Also adding to the situation, the Greek landlord out the back that doesn’t really care about what goes on in the house and how many vans are out front as long as it’s still standing and rent is paid on time was a factor in my conclusion that ‘hey Adelaide’s actually pretty decent’.

After many a month's chilling and biking with the boys, I later wound up with this video featuring split parts from Brad Collins/Mitch Campbell and Zenith Riley/Jimmah as well as a part from myself and a mega part from Brayden McPharlin.

Holland street was such a good time. Thanks boys.
